On December 14-15, 2013, we held our annual workshop for volunteers who managed our libraries and also for teachers of elementary schools in Labuan Bajo, Flores, East Nusa Tenggara. This was the second time we held such workshop. This year’s themed: “Creative Teaching Methods, Increase Children’s Interest in Reading” and the speaker was Mr. Agus Sampurno, a famous educator in Indonesia.

Over 40 participants attended the two-day workshop that was held in Labuan Bajo. Our volunteers who managed our libraries in Lombok and Sumbawa also made it all the way to Flores! It was such a blast!

During the workshop, the participants learned about many things, including: creative teaching methods, how to make zig-zag books, creating a “Reading Corner” with different themes every month, fun games for kids, and many more. Participants were also asked to “promote” a book in front of everyone as if he/she was encouraging kids to read that book. Everyone had a great time and we received positive feedback from the participants. Ibu Siska from Taman Bacaan Pelangi in Dalong Village said, “This workshop is very useful. We can implement what we learn today in our school and at Taman Bacaan Pelangi”.

Ms. Eka, who manage our library in Lombok, said, “I never received any workshop like this. Now I got a lot of ideas for the kids at Taman Bacaan Pelangi and at my kindergarten. I’m very excited!”

Everyone gave pretty much the same feedback. They even wanted us to hold more workshops like this for them, because they found the content very useful.

Check out some of the photos of the workshop on our Facebook page: http://on.fb.me/O0o7wr and http://on.fb.me/1g4Qxjr and see how much fun all the participants had during those two days! 🙂
